Child and Adolescent Psychologist

Our child psychologists in Melbourne can help your child or teen flourish and grow in a safe and supportive environment.

While childhood is a very special time in a person’s life, it can also come with unique challenges as young people learn to navigate the world. This can be especially difficult if your child is working through a traumatic event, struggles with their mental health, or is just feeling overwhelmed.

At Your Mind Matters, we help children and adolescents manage life’s toughest moments with our child adolescent and counselling services. Whether your child is processing a life-changing event, having a hard time in school or just needs a little extra help, we are here to listen and help them build the coping skills for current or future issues.

If you need a psychologist for adolescents or children in Melbourne, call us today to find out how we can help.

Your Mind Matters Psychology Services have a team of highly experienced Child and Adolescent psychologists. Children and adolescents often come to counselling to assist with:

Anxiety and Depression
Home and/or School related stress
School refusal (due to bullying, social or academic pressures)
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Trauma (including abuse)
Sleeping difficulties
Help with transitions (new schools, family members, or navigating separation)

Counselling for Children

Counselling can help your child navigate through their difficulties, as well as teach them skills and strategies to cope with any current and future problems.

Working with children requires a skillset quite different from working with adolescents and adults. For counselling to be effective with children, the psychologist must build rapport so the child feels safe and free to open up, and use a mixture of play and targeted activities to help your child learn and grow. The psychologists must also utilise communication techniques that are authentic and appropriate to your child’s level of development.

Counselling For Adolescents

Adolescence is a time of heightened anxiety, stress, and uncertainty. Teens these days are struggling to cope with increased study demands, social pressures, and are continuously faced with the ever looming question “what do you want to do when you finish high school?” Social media adds another layer of complexity, as it tends to create “fear of missing out”, encourages the tendency to compare oneself to others, and is the type of medium that makes bullying and peer-pressure all too easy.

Your Mind Matters Psychology Services have psychologists available “The Psych Squad” who can provide adolescent counselling services. For more information about this service, contact our administration team.

Our child therapists can support many different learning and developmental disabilities. We will give your child room to explore their strengths, improve their skills, and navigate challenges in a safe environment.
